arthur+martha CIC will continue to develop its unique, high quality community projects with Elderly People in the North West, run cross- generational work, offer consultancy and mentoring and manage artist commissions and residencies

The latest series of artworks/writing by older people working with arthur+martha CIC can be seen here. Baby and children's socks and mittens, were donated to arthur+martha CIC by members of Freecycle Buxton. Older participants from projects at Marlhill Court and Cherry Tree Hospital, created work by labelling these socks with poems, thoughts and images. Each creates a double narrative, both within itself and with the 'innocence' of the object: one man told of how he saw his comrades fall in battle, they would bury them where they fell with their socks and shoes, taking any valuables home. He selected a grey child's sock, reminiscent of his army sock, and attached a short poem. Another piece tells of romantic dances, another the journeys feet have taken. Some are an oblique comment, or a word of advice or caution. These understated objects bring together the two ends of life.

new exhibition Verbivisivoco
"Self-portraits in an ageing mirror: the worlds, words and visions of older people"

Worlds, words and vision’ is an exhibition at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, of self-reflections made by older people in living in Stockport. Many of these artists are in poor health and the fragile, wavering lines and whispered words often mark a struggle with pain and illness as well as the ageing process.

The exhibition contains multiple self-reflections, a hall of memory mirrors. Concrete poems combine word and image, as do the photo/poems. Sound pieces play with the texture of word-making. Found objects spark associations. Finally, the drawings trace delicate lines of ageing.

The exhibition continues until 22nd June, you can ring Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on 01298 24658 or email buxton.museum@derbyshire.gov.uk the gallery is open Tues to Fri, 9.30am-5.30pm, Sat 9.30am- 5.00pm and Sundays and Bank Holidays 10.30am- 5.00pm.
